Well...this isn't exactly a translation of a Yama conversation post, but we're celebrating it Yama-parents style, literally :P

So, way back in 2006 on Baystorm, Nino received a question from a fan asking why Sho was "mom" and Ohno was "dad" (or old man), well, he didn't exactly answer the latter, but he gave a thorough response for Sho ;)

「翔くんってよく昔メンバーからお母さんって言われてますよね。ニノが今まで感じた翔くんのお母さん的な行動ベスト3を教えてください。キャプテンのお父さん、おじいちゃんな行動もよかったら。」

翔くんはね、几帳面なんだよね、結構。誰か仕切ってくれる人がいると全然その人に任せるけど、自分が仕切らなきゃいけなかったりするとやたらと几帳面になるね。ゴミは絶対片づけるね、あの人。散らかってるのが嫌なんだよね、たぶん。でも自分の部屋は超汚いの。いるよね、でもそういう人ね。もう周りではすごいさ、やるんだけどさ、自分の部屋に帰るとなんにもしなくなっちゃうんだ、絶対ね。

だから一緒に釣り行ったことがあって、翔くんと、相葉ちゃんと。釣り行ったことがあって。翔くんが1回竿投げたら、その投げた瞬間に紐がこんがらがっちゃったの。下に根掛かりしたとかじゃなくて、投げた瞬間にグルグルグルグルなんか引っかかっちゃって、翔くんそれしかやってないの。1回投げただけだったの、あとは全部片づける人。エサ片づけたり、仕掛けの袋片づけて、それからオレと相葉ちゃんはお母さんお母さんって言ってて...

Q: Arashi members have been calling Sho-kun “mom”, right? Can you share with us what kind of motherly behavior he has? If you could ellaborate on why Captain (Ohno) is “dad” or “old man” too…

Nino:
You know, Sho-kun is very punctual. Quite so. If there is someone else to take the responsibility, then he will leave it to that person. But if not, he would become the responsible one. He would always tidy up the garbage, that person. He doesn’t like messes, probably. His own room is super messy though. But there are people like that out there, right? The type that ends up not doing anything after returning to his or her own room.

You see, we went fishing together before. Me, Sho-kun, and Aiba-chan. Sho-kun’s string got tangled the minute he tossed his rod in. After that, he didn’t do anything else. He just tossed once for the fishing, and from there on he became the cleaning person. He cleaned the baits and hooks up… And ever since, Aiba-chan and I have been calling him “mom! mom!”...

Til now, it seems like Nino's sentiment on Yama remains the same :P And look what Yama said! From TV Life (1222-0106), the members got the questions to say who are the "most motherly" and "most fatherly" members.

    

Sho:
Most fatherly: Ohno-san, because of his "reading sports newspaper" stance LOL

Ohno:
Most motherly: Sho-chan, because even in TV shows he's very responsible. He basically keeps everything together (for us).

Nino:
Most motherly: Probably Sho-chan, because he helps tidy things up for us.
Most fatherly: Ohno-san, because he doesn't do anything LOL. Well, it's good enough that he's simply here (for us).


In case you're curious about Aiba and Jun's answers if they involved Yama (just to be fair XD):

Jun: 
Most motherly: Riida. He's soft and has that protective feeling.

Aiba: 
Most fatherly:  Riida. Generally he doesn't move a lot, and he has a calmness to him.

HAPPY (STILL OVER THERE) BIRTHDAY TO OUR BB/MAMA~

seriously, ever since I'm in the fandom and more recently; it felt like birthdays celebration for the boys stretched for more hours. Starting from an hour earlier than my actual timezone... and only ended when the whole globe is done with the day. Kinda awesome, gives us excuses for LOTS of things. ahem.

Nino always amazes me. Among all the members in Arashi; I think Nino has the most heck-care attitude when it comes to his Arashi 'parents'. I even think he could get away with murder when it comes to the eldest two. But he has always been so firm abt calling Sho as the mama of the group for the longest time (even if he did attempt to change the 'father' not too long ago xD then he goes back at Ohno again. Maybe because it was nearing to 'otoshi-dama' giving time?)

I hope for more 'mama-revelations' this year too <3

YES HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO OUR GD (pfft) XD Thankfully we got the timezone for early or emergency last minute celebration (like now haha). Although for the fandom, sometimes countdown starts way early on!

I agree, I am so thankful for Nino being so protective of the 'parents'...he was also the one who played off the "joke" in the HnA's Yama MV going "yappari!?" and saved their butts for the "Sho-san or fishing" mishap xD But mostly he is definitely a mama defender...somehow I was also amused that Aiba (who also calls Sho 'okaasan') said Nino was the most motherly. We're seeing more dynamics in the household hehe.

happy bday to everyone's favourite wifey/mother! i like how they really view Sho as the mother because of all the little things he does for them its really cute and then its really evident esp when they mention that ohchan is the dad cos he is just there just watching over, that Sho is really perfect for the mama role XD

i LOL'd that even the wife himself identified his hubby! haaaaa Yama is just so perfect!also thank you to nino for always mentioning who the parents are! XD

forgot to squeeee about the usage of 'Sho-chan' by Ohno. its popping up again! XD

Yeah! It's been probably over a year since he consistently used "Sho-chan", and even now I'm so interested in what's the reason for the change. It's kinda nostalgic reading "Sho-kun" now. I'm fine with either!

Right? There were several older magazine citations where all 4 called Sho 'mother', and it's only himself that didn't think so - he either called himself as 'father' or otherwise say there's no 'motherly' figure in the group. xD So it is freshing that Sho actually said Ohno is 'fatherly'! and Ohno keeps getting switched back and forth between old man or father for years now, I thought it was interesting J said he's 'motherly' for this TV Life. But overall verdict is pretty clear that Yama is still the parent figures (my bias talking probably xD).

Yeah, I feel like I can always count on Nino for being that 'filial piety' figure XD Hopefully Sho mama will share something about his birthday soon, and maybe it will mention a weird mail from papa.

It's his month! so yeah, bring it, im still celebrating :P
Nino can tell and with many reasons ahead of why Sho is the one who can settle the guys with their responsabilities, such as the mood(that sound super formal, but they have a job so~ ex: leading conversations). Ohno has developed another concept of leader (formality of a title) and as the eldest from the group, his calmness and also, he has like a shield against everything.
Yama are the ones who can bring secutiry in Arashi, just like mama & papa.
I hope mama Sho, im sorry! Sho-kun had a nice day during his birthday, that he recieved all the love as possible ^w^

I actually love their reasons for 'mama' and 'papa'...it's not what people usually think for the 'parenting' positions. It's like, Sho is the mama who can do many jobs, watch out for the little details, and is level-headed even though papa isn't there. Ohno is the unusually laidback papa who watches everyone from behind (as you said 'shield against everything'), but when it's the moment where mama -or any of them- needs him, he will be there. It's a lovely balance that I can't help but be so proud of the Arashi family xD

Hope Sho will talk have stories about his birthday soon!
